The 11th edition of La Vaca Gigante is now history. 27 national and international surfers made their way to Cantabria to battle against wind and waves in an epic day of XXL surf. More than 12,000 people gathered at Las Canteras of Cueto, Santander, to witness this one-of-a-kind event.
Out of the two planned finals, only the Spanish Big Wave Surfing Championship Final took place, with a clear and undisputed winner: Manuel Lezcano. Competing in La Vaca for the first time, the Lanzarote surfer delivered an outstanding performance, winning both his semifinal and final heats. Despite the challenging conditions, he managed to ride two incredible waves, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
Following him on the podium were Basque surfers Xabi López and Eneko Merino, who were set to join Manuel in La Vaca Gigante's Grand Final, competing against the top three international surfers. However, due to dangerous conditions with low tide and shifting winds, the organization prioritized the safety of both surfers and lifeguards, ultimately splitting the final prize among all finalists.
"The waves were absolutely massive—this was the biggest La Vaca Gigante edition to date, pushing the limits of what can be paddled into. It’s a discipline that deserves recognition because it’s just the surfer and their board against nature. Waves reached the height of a three-story building. It was an incredible show, and we’re about to see some spectacular footage,"
said Pedro García, organizer of La Vaca Gigante.
