Die Gold Coast ist flat, die Cold Coast feuert. Die gesamte erste März-Woche über wurde der Nordwesten Dänemarks von einem Groundswell mit einer Periode von 12 bis 16 Sekunden beehrt. Endlich machte so auch der wochenlang andauernde Ostwind Sinn, der im Februar lediglich einige maue Ostsee-Sessions erlaubte. Die Ausläufer des Russland-Hochs kämmten die bis zu 200 Meter breiten Lines, die nördlich der Shetlands auf den Weg geschickt wurden, in perfekt geshapte Zylinder - jedenfalls da, wo die richtige Sandbank oder ein Riff auf die Atlantikdünung wartete.
Das Muschelriff mit den vielen Bunkern weit im Nordwesten ist mit seinem felsigen Untergrund wohl die beste Adresse, wenn Groundswell und Ostwind aufeinander treffen. So auch diesmal. Lars Petersen, Windsurf-Pro und Fotograf aus Klitmöller und Local Mor Meluka bezeichnen ihre Session in der letzten Woche als "best Bunkers ever". Und das will was heißen.
Lars blickt zurück: "It started Friday with nice SW swell down south, and then it just kept coming! The weekend saw clean offshore and really fun conditions, Monday and Tuesday the wind changed to light onshore winds, making it a bit more messy, but definitely still worth getting in the water.
Then came Wednesday.
We knew something was cooking out in the ocean, but you never know what you get... In the end, this was one of the most beautiful days of the winter. Smooth and almost glassy, good size waves, long period - all the ingredients, to make “Cold Hawaii” live up to it’s name."
